20th century

  • 1929August 16 – The 1929 Palestine riots break out between Palestinians and Jews in Mandatory Palestine, and continue until the end of the month. In total, 133 Jews and 116 Palestinians are killed.source
  • 193427 March – Musa al-Husayni (born 1853), Palestinian Arab politician and leader of the Palestinian Arab national movement from 1922 until 1934. He never recovered from the beating he received from the Palestine Police in Jaffa five months earlier.source
  • 19382 October – 1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine: In the 1938 Tiberias massacre, Arab rioters kill 19 Jews in the city of Tiberias, eleven of whom are children. During the massacre, 70 armed Arabs set fire to Jewish homes and the local synagogue.source

  • 1985November 23 - EgyptAir Flight 648 was hijacked by the Palestinian terrorist organization Abu Nidal from Ellinikon International Airport in Athens. The subsequent raid on the aircraft by Egyptian troops killed 56 of the 86 passengers, two of the three hijackers, and two of the six crew, making the hijacking of Flight 648 one of the deadliest such incidents in history.source

  • 1990October 8 – Israeli–Palestinian conflict: In Jerusalem, Israeli police kill 17 Palestinians and wound over 100 near the Dome of the Rock mosque on the Temple Mount.source
  • 1995September 1 - Gaddafi orders the expulsion of 30,000 Palestinians living in Libya, as a gesture of his opposition to the Oslo II Accord process between the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel. The expulsion process went badly, with many Palestinians sent to poorly-equipped refugee camps on the Egyptian border or stranded in Cyprus, and the process was temporarily halted in late October 1995. It resumed in 1996, halving the number of Palestinians living in Libya.source

  • 2007July 10: The Gadhafi Foundation announces a deal has been reached with families of more than 400 children infected with HIV in the case of five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor.source
  • 2011October 18 – Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange: Israel and the Palestinian militant organization Hamas begin a major prisoner exchange, in which the captured Israeli Army soldier Gilad Shalit is released by Hamas in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian and Israeli-Arab prisoners held in Israel, including 280 prisoners serving life sentences for planning and perpetrating terror attacks.source
  • 2012November 14–21 – Israel launches Operation Pillar of Defense against the Palestinian-governed Gaza Strip, killing Hamas military chief Ahmed Jabari. In the following week 140 Palestinians and five Israelis are killed in an ensuing cycle of violence. A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is announced by Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after the week-long escalation in hostilities in Southern Israel and the Gaza Strip.source
