• 1123March 25 – St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, commonly known as Barts, is founded by Rahere, a favourite courtier of King Henry I; it is now the oldest hospital in the United Kingdom operating on its original site.source
• 1126Two previously written Chinese pharmaceutical works, one by Shen Kuo and one by Su Shi, are combined into one written work.source
• 1134Abdul Qadir Jilani becomes principal of the Hanbali school in Baghdad.source
• 1151The first plague and fire insurance policy is issued in Iceland.source

• 1171September – Doge Vitale II Michiel leads a Venetian fleet (120 ships) against the Byzantines, conquering the cities of Trogir and Dubrovnik. But the plague takes a heavy toll among the fleet's crewmen; half the ships have to be burned to keep them from falling into enemy hands. A plague also breaks out in Venice, when the remaining ships return.source
